The funds will impact 13 elementary schools in the Lehigh Valley.

Allentown, PA (March 22, 2023) – Communities In Schools of Eastern Pennsylvania (CISEasternPA) has been awarded $25,000 from the Air Products Foundation in partnership with United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley. The generous contribution will support programs in the 13 community schools in which CISEasternPA is the lead partner.

The funds will assist programming dealing with housing insecurity, hunger, academic challenges (during and after school), mentoring, health services (mental/dental/other), tutoring, summer programs, and a variety of intervention programs such as absenteeism prevention and the Student Assistance Program (SAP).

CISEasternPA serves in 13 community schools in the region. In the Allentown School District: Central Elementary, Brigadier General Anna Mae Hays Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Sheridan Elementary, Union Terrace Elementary, Washington Elementary, Harrison Morton Middle, South Mountain Middle, and Trexler Middle Schools. In the Bethlehem Area School District: Lincoln Elementary and Northeast Middle Schools. In the Easton Area School District: Cheston Elementary and Paxinosa Elementary.

During the 2021-2022 school year, CISEasternPA’s Community School program served 8,263 students. Site coordinators connected school leadership, volunteers, community partners, and parents in ways that guided positive change and buy-in from all stakeholders. In their daily work, they act as a vehicle for hyper-local decision-making, all while accounting for the unique needs of each community and focusing on removing barriers that impact student success through collaborative leadership, expanded learning time, parent and family engagement, and data driven decision making.

“We truly grateful to Air Products for this generous grant.” said CISEasternPA President and CEO Tim Mulligan. “Our bold mission of surrounding students with a community of support, and empowering them to succeed in school and in life can only succeed with the support of great community-minded partners like Air Products.”

For more than 25 years, Communities In Schools and Coalition for Community Schools have shared a mission of empowering student and community success by facilitating access to resources that address barriers for students and families for whom disparities related to race, ethnicity, socio-economic status, and zip code are harsh realities.
