April 19, 2023 – The City of Allentown is hosting the fourth annual Earth Day in the Park celebration on Saturday April 22 at the Arts Park.

The rain-or-shine event is run by the City’s Bureau of Recycling and Solid Waste in honor of the Global Earth Day holiday to increase awareness of environmental protection.

Earth Day in the Park is a family-friendly event complete with “green” games and activities for attendees such as face painting, balloon twisting, and a visit from Ferrous, the LV Iron Pigs mascot. G-Force Entertainment is the music provider.

The City’s Stormwater and “Keep Allentown Beautiful” teams, along with Waste Management and Tinker’N, are providing educational programming covering environmental stewardship and recycling.

The Allentown Art Museum and Wildlands Conservancy are offering a free sketching circle with live animals on the museum lawn for all ages from 12 to 3pm. In the event of rain, this activity will be moved indoors into the Museum’s Community Gallery. Admission to the Allentown Art Museum is free this day, and every day, as part of its Free For All program.

Other organizations participating in the event include Girl Scout Troop 6169, Allentown Public Library, Lehigh Valley Humane Society, Lehigh County Authority, PA Game Commission, Lehigh Valley Conservation District, LV Audubon Society & Allentown EAC, Amazon, Highmark Wholecare, Wegmans, The Humane League, Penn Future, and Muhlenberg College.

The event also spotlights local eco-friendly vendors, such as: S & E Natural Soaps, eco-friendly and sustainable natural body and facial products; PPL Community Roots and PSU Master Gardeners, offering free pollinator plants and native wildflower seeds; The Junkluggers of LV, eco-friendly junk removal services; Green Pond Packaging, eco-friendly kitchenware; Vic’s Vittles, all-natural homemade dog and cat treats; That Planty Chick, offering a DIY planter station; and Laura’s Piece on Earth, handmade sustainable goods.

Split Pine Axe Throwing is donating 50% of all Earth Day profits to OneTreePlanted, a non-profit organization focused on global reforestation.

Attendees are eligible to win from over a dozen giveaway raffles, including gift cards, free game tickets, and supplies.
