Community encouraged to continue voting daily as local landmark approaches USA Today threepeat

Bethlehem, PA (August 1, 2023) – Historic Hotel Bethlehem is in the lead galloping towards the finish line to claim a triple crown victory in the USA Today Best Historic Hotels contest. There is just one week left to vote for the local landmark. “The last leg of the race isn’t the place to take a breather; It’s time to pick up the pace and sprint to a strong finish,” said Historic Hotel Bethlehem Managing Partner Bruce Haines.

Strong community support has kept the hotel at the top of the rankings since week one. “We love our community and are delighted to see them showing love back,” said hotel Director of Room Sales & Guest Experience Kelly Ronalds. “When the hotel wins, we all win together.”

Could it be a trifecta?

If Historic Hotel Bethlehem takes the Best Historic Hotel crown this year, it would be the third consecutive year. Over the course of five years, it climbed from third, to second, and finally first place. In order to finish strong and hold the leading position, community members should continue voting daily until the very end. Ronalds said, “We’re excited for the attention a win like this brings to Bethlehem and the entire Lehigh Valley.”

The leaderboard goes dark in the last week of voting. So, there’s no way to know who’s in the lead. Historic Hotel Bethlehem has maintained the #1 spot so far, but a lot can change in a week. “We want to keep enthusiasm up all around to ensure the win,” said Haines. “Being named the number one historic hotel in America three years in a row really secures a place at the top of historic destinations for both the hotel and Historic Bethlehem. Coming together as a community can get us there for sure.”

How to Vote
To vote, visit www.votehotelb.com. Individuals can vote daily through August 7 at noon. USA Today will announce the winners on August 18.

Hotel History
Historic Hotel Bethlehem opened in May of 1922 as a 200 room community hotel. Prior to Historic Hotel Bethlehem, multiple structures occupied the property. In 1741, Moravians constructed the “First House of Bethlehem” on the land. In 1823, The Golden Eagle Hotel opened and remained until 1919. In its last days, The Golden Eagle Hotel served as a convalescent home for soldiers returning from World War I.

The Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce sold shares of the hotel to local residents for $50 per share. This was key in bringing the vision of Bethlehem Steel President Charles Schwab to light for a grand hotel on Main Street in Bethlehem. Since the roaring ‘20s, Historic Hotel Bethlehem has been a vital community hub. It has hosted presidents, celebrities and thousands of local weddings, anniversaries, proms, galas, and special events as the social center of Bethlehem and the Lehigh Valley.
