Local Fire, EMS Companies Awarded Nearly $193,000 in State Funding Support, Says Mackenzie

HARRISBURG – Twelve fire and emergency medical services (EMS) companies in the 187th Legislative District were collectively awarded nearly $193,000 in funding support through the 2023-24 Pennsylvania Fire Company and Emergency Medical Services Grant Program, Rep. Ryan Mackenzie (R-Lehigh) announced today.

“I am pleased we are able to provide these state grants to help our local fire and ambulance companies as they so bravely serve our community when emergencies occur,” said Mackenzie. “I am thankful for everything our dedicated first responders do for us and, while this funding is helpful, I am going to continue to fight for increased support to help them continue their great work.”

The ongoing funding program was created by the General Assembly. All grants are generated from slot machine gaming proceeds, and not General Fund tax revenue.

The local grants are as follows:

  • Citizens Fire Company No. 1 Inc. – $13,451.
  • Community Fire Company of New Tripoli – $16,952.
  • Fogelsville Volunteer Fire Co. – $14,229.
  • Good Will Fire Co. No. 1 of Trexlertown – $16,368.
  • Goodwill Fire Co. No. 1 Inc. – $15,979.
  • Lower Macungie Fire Department – $29,952.
  • Lynnport Community Fire Company #1 – $14,423.
  • Macungie Ambulance Corps. – $15,000.
  • Macungie Volunteer Fire Department – $13,256.
  • Slatington Volunteer Fire Department – $13,645.
  • Star Hose Company No. 1 – $14,618.
  • Weisenberg Volunteer Fire Department – $14,812.

Projects eligible for funding include construction or renovation of a fire or ambulance company facility, purchase or repair of equipment, training, or reduction of existing debt.

The program is administered by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency with the application process handled through the Office of the State Fire Commissioner (OSFC). The funding amounts are contingent on the recipients filing their grant agreements with OSFC before July 1.
