ALLENTOWN CELEBRATES 5TH ANNUAL EARTH DAY IN THE PARK THIS WEEKEND

April 18, 2024 – The City of Allentown is hosting the fifth annual Earth Day in the Park celebration on Saturday April 20 from 12 to 4pm at Cedar Beach Park.

Organized by the City’s Bureau of Recycling and Solid Waste, this rain-or-shine event commemorates the Global Earth Day holiday, aiming to raise awareness of environmental protection initiatives.

Earth Day in the Park is a family-friendly event complete with “green” games and activities such as face painting, dance classes by the Muhlenberg Student Dance Association, and a “Waste Warrior” obstacle course.

Educational programming on environmental stewardship and recycling will be provided by the Allentown Stormwater Bureau, “Keep Allentown Beautiful” team, and Waste Management.

A diverse range of organizations will be participating, including the Allentown Public Library; the Allentown Environmental Advisory Council; Amazon; American Gutters and Cleaning; Bee Creek; Boy Scout Troop 74; Camp Fowler & Valley Youth House; the Allentown Community Housing, Keep Allentown Beautiful, Parks and Recreation, and Storm Water teams; DaVinci Center; Glass Garden Art by Martha; Imperfection Is Beautiful; Joyce Weand; Kellyn Foundation; Lehigh Conservation District; Lehigh County Authority; Lioness Dreamland; Little Lehigh Watershed Stewards; Lehigh Valley Audubon Society; Lehigh Valley Coalition on Appropriate Transportation; Lehigh Valley Humane Society; Niko & Me; Oak Street Health; Pennsylvania Department of Health and Department of Human Services; Penn Future; Conservation Voters of PA; Real Broker LLC & Kyngs Royalty Mobile Notary Services LLC; Revolution Recovery; The Project Manager LLC; Wildlands Conservancy; and Youth & Teen Renovations.

Food will be available for purchase from the event’s official food vendors: Granny JZs Jamaican Café; Grubnight Food Truck; Puertoriccan Culture Preservation; Queen V Wraps; and The Udder Bar. Additionally, fresh fruits and vegetables will be available at no cost through the Allentown Health Bureau Fruit & Veggie Truck.

The event also spotlights local eco-friendly vendors, such as: S & E Natural Soaps, eco-friendly and sustainable natural body and facial products; PPL Community Roots and PSU Master Gardeners, offering free pollinator plants and native wildflower seeds; and Green Pond Packaging, eco-friendly kitchenware; among others.

Those who attend can be eligible to win from over a dozen giveaway raffles, including gift cards, free game tickets, and supplies.
