“It’s Never Too Late to Chase Your Dreams” Joetta Clark Diggs Sets New American Masters Record at 62, Inspiring Her Daughter and the World
(Leigh Valley, Pa – February 28, 2025) – At 62, four-time Olympian Joetta Clark Diggs has once again made history—this time, not just for herself but for the next generation. In a story of perseverance, inspiration, and the unbreakable bond between mother and daughter, Joetta set a new American Masters record in the 200-meter dash (60-64 age category) at the USATF Masters Indoor Championships, clocking an incredible 28.62 seconds.
But this wasn’t just another victory for the legendary track star. It was the first time her daughter, world champion sprinter Talitha Diggs, ever saw her mother compete. A moment decades in the making, this was a true mother-daughter victory story—one that proves it’s never too late to go after your dreams.
At the end of January, Joetta made a spontaneous yet bold decision: she would return to the track. After 25 years away from competition, she registered for the Indoor Masters Championships, committed to training, and set out to show her daughter—and the world—that age is just a number when it comes to chasing your dreams.
“My daughter, Talitha, wanted to see me compete and witness firsthand what I had done all those years ago. And I wanted to show others that if you have a goal, no matter when, you can do the work and go for it,” explains Joetta Clark Diggs, best known as “Joetta.”
Talitha, who has followed in her mother’s footsteps, becoming a world champion sprinter and NCAA record-holder, was overwhelmed with pride.
“MY MOM IS AMAZING and is your new 200m American Masters Record Holder. She ran 28.62 in the 200m at 62 years old, and this was her first race in 25 years. PLUS, this was my first time watching her compete, and it was incredible. I am so so so so proud of my momma Jo.”
With both mother and daughter now holding track records, their story is one of resilience, family legacy, and the power of never giving up.
Joetta’s impact goes far beyond the racetrack. As a New Jersey Hall of Fame recipient, motivational speaker, author, and entrepreneur, she has spent years inspiring others through keynote speeches at women’s empowerment events and educational workshops for young athletes. She leads fitness and wellness programs such as the Head 2 Toe Fitness Program™, teaching children about health, nutrition, and exercise, and she runs the D2RYD Track & Field Camp, helping young athletes develop speed, agility, and confidence.
Her latest triumph on the track is yet another chapter in her lifelong mission—to show people of all ages that it’s never too late to dream big, put in the work, and make history.
“Over three decades, I’ve been a motivational speaker and a fitness wellness and mental health advocate. No matter where you are in life—whether you’re 20, 40 or 60 — if there’s something you want to do, go after it. Train for it. Work for it. Believe in yourself. Dreams don’t have deadlines,” says Joetta, new 200m American Masters Record Holder for the 60-64 set.
