Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center’s Library To Host Award Winning Author, A.S. King

ALLENTOWN, PA — The LGBT Library at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center is bringing a nationally award-winning author to Allentown for a book talk later this month. The author, A.S. King, is best known for her critically acclaimed Young Adult novels. Her visit is scheduled for September 28.
King has received numerous national awards for her novels. Her book, Ask The Passengers, received the Los Angeles Times Book Prize, was a Lambda Literary Award finalist, and the American Library Association’s GLBT Round Table listed it as a Rainbow List Top Ten Pick.
In writing about King, The New York Times Book Review wrote  “Maybe there are writers more adept than King at capturing the outrageous and outraged voice of teenagers, but it’s difficult to think of one.”
King will visit Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center on Wednesday September 28 for a 6pm book talk. The event is free to attend and a dessert reception and book signing will follow.
“We are thrilled to be bringing such a notable and exciting author of LGBT Young Adult literature to our community,” said Adrian Shanker, Executive Director of Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center. “Celebrating LGBT arts and culture is one of our key priorities at the Center – and finding opportunities for our community to engage with authors like A.S. King help us to achieve that vision.”
Kathleen Kapila, Front Desk & Library Coordinator at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center, said “Surviving adolescence is at best a challenging process. Add the pressures of a dysfunctional family, a hostile social environment, or coming to terms with your sexual orientation or gender identity and challenge can become crisis. Award winning author A.S. King gives a clear, strong voice to young people struggling to weather these storms, blending harsh realities with the dreams and fantasies they create to help them cope.”
The LGBT Library at Bradbury-Sullivan LGBT Community Center houses more than 1,700 books, CDs, and DVDs in celebration of LGBT literature, history, and culture. The library also hosts book talks by LGBT authors and authors of LGBT themed books.
