St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral or St. Nicholas, was founded in 1916 on the south side of Bethlehem in a church purchased for $12,500 from the Episcopal Church. A great number of the founders were from Asia Minor where St. Nicholas preached and it is believed this lead them to name the Church after their homeland Saint. Although remodeled in 1953, the parish realized a new Church was needed. A parcel of land was purchased on West Union Boulevard. Father Timothy Negropontis and members of the parish broke ground for the present edifice in 1960 and the mortgage was burned in 1971.
