ASD School Board Names Sara Jane Brace to fill Open Position



 

Allentown, PA (March 2, 2017)  At a Special Board Meeting on Thursday, March 2, the Allentown School Board of Directors named Sara Jane Brace to fill the Board Member position vacated by Michael Welsh (R) at the end of last year. Brace will serve in this position until the first Monday in December 2017.

Brace, a resident for the past seven years, is the Executive Director of the Liberty Bell Museum located at Historic Zion’s Church in Allentown. She holds a Master’s in Education from DeSales University and has worked with children in various settings – from the museum to Pre-K Counts programs to the Pittsburgh Public School system.

Three candidates applied for the open position. In addition to Brace, Rachel Lessig-Boyer and Robert Walker were interviewed for the Board vacancy. Candidates for consideration had to be at least 18 years old, a resident of the district for at least one year, could not hold other public office, could not be employed by the school district, and had to be registered in the same party as the member being replaced.

Each candidate was interviewed for approximately 20 minutes and were asked the same questions. As per Pennsylvania School Code, the interviews will be conducted in public.
