to the newly defined role.

Allentown, PA, January 5, 2018 – United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley (UWGLV) announced today that Laura McHugh has been named Director of Communications and Media Relations for the organization.  An Emmy award-winning content manager, producer and writer, McHugh joins UWGLV after a 10-year career with PBS39 WLVT, the Greater Lehigh Valley’s public media station.

In her new role, McHugh will manage UWGLV’s internal and external communications strategies, promotional campaigns, and media relations. McHugh will direct and oversee communication activities that will effectively describe and promote United Way’s mission, impact and importance in the Lehigh Valley and Carbon County area.  McHugh will work with Director of Marketing and Design Zandra Whalen and reports directly to Marci Ronald-Lesko, Executive Vice President at UWGLV.

“We are very pleased to have Laura join the team,” said David Lewis, President of UWGLV.  “Her years of communication experience along with media relationships and a background in nonprofit work will help our organization deliver a consistent, thoughtful and effective message about United Way’s work in the Lehigh Valley and Carbon County.”

McHugh was most recently Director of Production and PBS Content Strategy at PBS39. She was also the host, creator and executive producer of FOCUS, an award-winning weekly television program on PBS39 that featured in-depth stories on community topics impacting the Greater Lehigh Valley area. McHugh holds a BA in Journalism from the University of Maryland, Philip Merrill College of Journalism.  She also serves on the Board of Governors for the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Mid-Atlantic Chapter, volunteers on the Board of Trustees for The Fund to Benefit Children and Youth, and is a committee member for the Da Vinci Science Center Annual Gala.

For a century, United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley has been a steward of community resources and will continue to be for the next 100 years.  The organization’s strength lies in its ability to convene and direct teams of people to work together, collectively, discovering new solutions to problems that no single organization can tackle alone.  Working together for the overall strength and wellbeing of the Greater Lehigh Valley and Carbon County, the organization is committed to four impact areas – education, healthy aging, food access and emergency services. The measurable effect of the work done reaches every corner of the area – especially where it is needed the most. United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley was recently recognized nationally as a Best in Class organization and a United Way Center of Excellence.
