Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network to Host Multiple Sclerosis Education Event on July 13

Allentown, PA — Good Shepherd Rehabilitation Network will host the 2019 Multiple Sclerosis Symposium on Saturday, July 13 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd’s Health & Technology Center, 850 South 5th Street, Allentown.

Titled “Navigating Multiple Sclerosis Wellness through Rehabilitation and Self-Care,” this free educational event is open to individuals and caregivers impacted by multiple sclerosis (MS). Through short presentations, informational tables and Q&A sessions, Good Shepherd experts will share tips to better manage MS and maximize independence and quality of life.

Symposium presentations from Good Shepherd experts include:

  • Asare Christian, MD, MPH, Good Shepherd’s associate outpatient medical director, will lead a research-based discussion on the role of physiatry and skilled therapy in managing MS.
  • Debra A. Lehr, OD, FAAO, optometrist, will discuss common visual issues related to MS and how treatment can have positive impacts.
  • Michael Schempp, OTR/L, will detail the latest computer, tablet and smartphone technology/apps for improving independence within the home, workplace and community.
  • Laura Quarmley, PT, a certified health and wellness coach and MS-certified specialist, will share self-care strategies for managing MS and enhancing quality of life.

Attendees also will have an opportunity to speak with Good Shepherd professionals from the MS Empowerment Support Group, Good Shepherd at Home, MS Wellness Program, Driving Program, Neuropsychology, Optimal Fitness, Outpatient Nutrition Services and Outpatient Neurorehabilitation Skilled Therapies. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society will be present to answer questions. Additionally, attendees will be able to schedule a physiatry evaluation with the Good Shepherd Physician Group.
