THE REV. MARIA TJELTVEIT AND ROB SCHMIDT APPOINTED TO ASD FOUNDATION BOARD OF DIRECTORS



 

 

June 18, 2020, Allentown, PA – Serving the children of the third largest urban school district in Pennsylvania, the Allentown School District Foundation (ASDF) Board of Directors voted, at its board meeting on June 18, to appoint The Rev. Maria Tjeltveit and Rob Schmidt to the board, which now stands at 21 volunteer members. “The Allentown School District Foundation welcomes Maria and Rob,” says Daniel C. Bosket, ASDF President. “These two highly talented individuals bring unique experience and expertise to the board that will greatly benefit the ASDF. Maria’s two children are graduates of William Allen High School and Rob is a graduate of Louis E. Dieruff High School, Class of 1997. Their commitment to Allentown’s children and their connections will be important as we further develop philanthropic relationships.”

Maria is the Rector of The Episcopal Church of the Mediator, located on West Park, Allentown, having begun her ministry on September 1, 1999. She co-chairs the Moravian-Episcopal Coordinating Committee for the national Episcopal Church and, locally, is a member of the Interfaith in Action Committee of the Lehigh Conference of Churches. She is also the Ecumenical and Interfaith Officer for the Diocese of Bethlehem. Maria graduated from Swarthmore College and the Berkeley/Yale Divinity School.  While her children were attending schools within the Allentown School District, Maria was president of William Allen High School and Raub Middle School’s parent-teacher organizations and served on Foundation’s Gala Committee for many years. She is a member of the Ethics Committee of the City of Allentown. A second- generation missionary child, she initiated the Refugee Community Center at Allentown’s Church of the Mediator.  She is married to Alan Tjeltveit, Ph.D., a professor at Muhlenberg College, and they reside in Allentown. They have two grown children. 

Rob Schmidt, DHS ‘97 – ASDF Board Member Background

Since graduating from Louis E. Dieruff High School in 1997, Rob has had a distinguished career in the risk management and insurance industries, serving the greater Philadelphia area. In 2020, he joined the Seltzer Group, an award-winning independent insurance agency with six locations in eastern Pennsylvania, as director of business development. Prior to this, he was employed as a vice president of East Penn Insurance Company, Allentown.  Rob graduated from Muhlenberg College in 2001, majoring in history and education. He serves as the chair of the Council of the YMCA of Allentown, as a board member of the Greater Valley YMCA and as a member of the Muhlenberg College Board of Associates. He resides in Fogelsville with his wife, Lisa, and three children.

Stepping down off the ASDF Board are Elizabeth H. Marcon, Esq. after seven years of service and Robert E. Sperling, Jr. after six years.
