Zion’s “Liberty Bell” Church Service

The Honorary First Defenders will be participating in their annual church service at Zion’s Reformed U.C.C. Church, 620 Hamilton Street, Allentown, PA.  The original First Defenders were called to protect our Capitol in April, 1861 and stopped at Zion’s church to pray before boarding the train to Harrisburg.  The church service is held on the date closest to Abraham Lincoln’s birthday.  The color guard from the 96th Pennsylvania Regiment will open the liturgical portion of the service at 10:45 a.m.

Ken Purcell along with Jake Laubach, known as the Jolly Tars will sing and play Civil War “gathering music” beginning at 10:30 a.m.
