YOUTH LEADERS DOING RIGHT HONORED



 

The 36 winners of the City of Allentown’s “Catch a Young Person Doing Something Right” campaign will be honored at a reception on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 5:30pm in City Council Chambers.

Launched in 2012, the “Catch a Young Person Doing Something Right” campaign is a way to recognize the numerous young people who contribute to the well-being of Allentown.

Mayor Ed Pawlowski said, “We are a community that is blessed to be served by many committed and enthusiastic individuals.  I am very pleased to see the eagerness of our young people to assist those in need.  I am honored to recognize these young people and thank the adults who took the time to bring them to our attention.”

Each of the honorees will receive certificates from the mayor.

Winners are honored according to age groups in the following categories: Volunteerism – for assisting someone or improving a neighborhood or the community in general. Going Above and Beyond the Call of Duty – for doing more than following the rules, such as making a good decision even when peers chose otherwise. For showing leadership skills, critical thinking, problem solving, maturity or conflict resolution. Scholarship – Notable academic improvement and or academic excellence.

Category for 7 – 10 year olds

o      Volunteerism – Jahelys Adorno, Yojasmi Martinez-Altagracia, Dezmariyah Brown, Priscilla Figueroa, Alexa Fondeur, Amir Harriston, Jordy Henriquez, Dianna Hererra, Demetrius Lema, John Medina, Abbigail Mexquititla, Nyalise Morales, Arianis Ortiz, Zyier Palmer, Angeidy Torres Perez, Jensy Ramirez, Joshua Ramirez and Zainalyn Velaquez

o      Going Above & Beyond the Call of Duty &Scholastic Achievement – Adam Concepcion

Category for 11- 14 year olds

o    Volunteerism – Nikaury Flores Albino, Jandiel Flores-Arcelay, Adreanna Avalos, Leilani Toyenz-Colon, Jeralis Garcia, Kendal Herczeg, Sherlyn A. Martinez, Lusiel Bonilla Ortiz, Felix Ramirez, Alexa Rosario and Jayden Rodriguez

o    Going Above & Beyond the Call of Duty – Yanderick Roman Cintron

Category for 15- 18 years olds

o    Volunteerism –  Ana Acosta, Noel Castro and Dayanna DeJesus

o    Going Above & Beyond the Call of Duty – Richie Madjoue and Chanaly Rodriguez
