John Waite of Bad English, Megan Williams Dance Project & More Coming to SteelStacks

BETHLEHEM, PA—English singer-songwriter John Waite, tributes to The Doors and Fleetwood Mac, and Megan Williams Dance Project’s ONE WOMAN SHOW featuring a pre-show presentation by dance students of Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts are among the five new performances announced for the ArtsQuest Center at SteelStacks. Tickets for the performances go on sale Tues., Jan. 8, 10 a.m., to ArtsQuest Members and Fri., Jan. 11, 10 a.m., to the public at www.steelstacks.org and 610-332-3378.

British rocker John Waite takes the stage at the Musikfest Café presented by Yuengling Oct. 10, 7:30 p.m. Best known as the lead singer of The Babys and Bad English, Waite was a fixture of album-oriented rock radio stations during the ‘70s and ‘80s. With hits like “Missing You,” The Babys’ “Isn’t It Time” and Bad English’s “When I See You Smile,” Waite secured a legacy among power ballad and arena rock artists, occasionally touching on new wave-styled power pop as well. Tickets for his show are $30-$35.

On April 4, 7:30 p.m., DANCE NOW SteelStacks welcomes Megan Williams Dance Project’s ONE WOMAN SHOW to the Fowler Blast Furnace Room. This performance of post-postmodern dance-theater follies for the small stage includes a pre-show presentation featuring Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Performing Arts students. In ONE WOMAN SHOW, choreographer Megan Williams channels the tragic and comedic heroines of golden-age Hollywood, using them as a lens to view the experience of the 21st-century woman. A contemporary nostalgia trip that grabs at the current moment through a series of action-packed vignettes, the work questions how society learns about sex, misogyny, romance, beauty and aging.

Called “whip-smart and vastly entertaining” by DanceBeat, ONE WOMAN SHOW features celebrated dance artists Esmé Boyce, Robert Mark Burke, Derek Crescenti, Dylan Crossman, John Eirich, Kristen Foote, Chelsea Hecht, Courtney Lopes and Megan Williams, with costume design by Barbara Erin Delo and sound design by Sam Crawford. Williams choreography has been produced by the 92nd Street Y, 10 Hairy Legs, DANCE NOW at Joe’s Pub and Dance Theater Workshop, the Rivertown Artists Workshop, Barnspace, MIXT Co., Purchase College, Marymount Manhattan College, Connecticut College and Interlochen Arts Academy. Tickets for the ONE WOMAN SHOW are $20.
