(AUGUST 26, 2019): Philadelphia public radio station WXPN, heard at 91.9 FM in Northwestern New Jersey and the Poconos and on 104.9 in the Lehigh Valley, is presenting acclaimed singer-songwriter Josh Ritter in a free concert for its listeners located in Northern New Jersey and Northeastern Pennsylvania. The concert will take place at the State Theatre in Easton, Pennsylvania on Sunday, September 22 with special guest Jealous of the Birds. Doors will open at 6 PM for the show starting at 7 PM. Admission is free with advance RSVP.

“With WXPN’s expanded reach into northeastern Pennsylvania and northwestern New Jersey, it’s important that we give back to this community that has welcomed us so enthusiastically, and a free Josh Ritter concert is a great way to do that,” said WXPN General Manager Roger LaMay.

WXPN is the member-supported, public radio service of the University of Pennsylvania that began broadcasting its award-winning, commercial-free music content to listeners in Northeastern Pennsylvania and Northwestern New Jersey on 91.9 FM in late 2015. With support from more than 30,000 members who enjoy free weekly concerts and special access to local music and arts events, WXPN is widely recognized as an influential source of music discovery. WXPN also produces NPR’s popular daily music program World Cafe, which is heard on more than 200 U.S. radio stations.

Josh Ritter, known for his unique songwriting ability and penchant for catchy melodies, is familiar to WXPN listeners from his appearances at the station’s annual XPoNential Music Festival over the years, including 2018. His most recent album, Fever Break, was cited by NPR Music as giving him “an even stronger voice while taking his career and music to a whole new level.” His appearance at the State Theatre accompanied by the Royal City Band will be the only area appearance in his extensive U.S. touring schedule. In April, Ritter appeared on World Cafe to perform stripped down, acoustic versions of songs from Fever Breaks.

Opening up for Josh Ritter will be Irish singer-songwriter Naomi Hamilton, known as Jealous of the Birds, who became known to many World Cafe fans when she performed in a special World Cafe session from Belfast, Ireland earlier this year.

Because no tickets will be sold for the September 22 free concert, guests must RSVP at XPN.org/RSVP in order to attend. The State Theatre is located at 453 Northampton Street in Easton, PA 18042.
