PBS39 leads the list of 2019 National Educational Telecommunications Association finalists.

Bethlehem, PA. – October 23, 2019 – PBS39, an entity of Lehigh Valley Public Media™, has been nominated for six National Educational Telecommunications Association (NETA) awards. The Greater Lehigh Valley’s public media organization leads the nation in number of nominations for these awards that honor public television’s best work in education, community engagement, marketing/communications and content.

“It is an honor to lead the list of finalists this year,” Tim Fallon, Chief Executive Officer of Lehigh Valley Public Media said. “I am so fortunate to have the chance to work with this talented team every day. We will continue to engage our community through our meaningful outreach, marketing and journalistic endeavors.”

Battling Opioids: A Project of Pennsylvania Public Media has been named a finalist in the community engagement – community initiative category. This collaborative, multi-media effort, undertaken by all seven Pennsylvania public television stations, uses the combined resources of television, radio, online, social, digital and community outreach events for one common good – to save lives.

PBS39’s The Story of Musikfest is a finalist in the category of content – cultural documentary. This special, created in partnership with ArtsQuest, recounts a variety of memorable moments from the 35 years of Musikfest including the rise of the event during the demise of Bethlehem Steel, the flood of 2011 and the weeks of construction and preparation each year. Stop the Violence, a special report examining youth and gang violence in the Lehigh Valley, is a finalist in the content category of news & public affairs.

PBS39’s marketing initiatives have been nominated in three different categories. The marketing surrounding election night is a finalist in the category of integrated media campaign and the election billboards are being recognized in the special event category. PBS39’s 2018 election coverage extended beyond the television screen, posting live news updates and results on digital billboards throughout the Greater Lehigh Valley. PBS39’s red billboards, promoting PBS39 News Tonight, are a finalist in the category of promotions. Both billboard campaigns were done in partnership with the creative team at Adams Outdoor Advertising.

The 2019 NETA Awards will take place on Sunday, January 26 at the 2020 NETA Conference and CPB Thought Leader Forum in Arlington, Virginia. Visit the NETA Conference website to learn more.
