Lehigh Valley Public Media’s Christine Dempsey to Join PRPD’s Board of Directors

Christine Dempsey, currently serving as the Senior Vice President of Radio for WLVR at Lehigh Valley Public Media, will begin her term with the board of directors beginning in February 2020

 

Bethlehem, PA. – January 6 – Lehigh Valley Public Media’s™ Senior Vice President of Radio, Christine Dempsey has been elected to join the Public Radio Program Directors Association’s board of directors and will begin her term this February.

“Christine is invaluable to the WLVR and the Lehigh Valley Public Media team,” said Tim Fallon, Chief Executive Officer of Lehigh Valley Public Media, home of PBS39. “We’re proud of Christine for her tireless work on WLVR and congratulate her for being elected to this seat. It’s certainly well-deserved.”

Dempsey takes this seat with 30 plus years of professional radio experience most recently from WABE-Atlanta. She has worked for WHYY, Philadelphia, WDIY in Bethlehem, WNYC in New York City and a variety of other public radio stations while she was an on-air fundraising consultant. Dempsey has been recognized with industry awards from the National Federation of Community Broadcasters, the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the National Academy of Television Arts and Science, as well as the Philadelphia Society of Professional Journalists and the Pennsylvania Associated Press. Most recently, she was awarded the prestigious Peabody and RFK Journalism awards for the podcast, Buried Truths. In addition, the podcast, Bottom of the Map, which she developed, was accepted as part of PRX’s Project Catapult.

Dempsey currently oversees the programming and recent launch of WLVR 91.3, the first full-service, NPR news and information radio station serving the Greater Lehigh Valley. With broadcast partner, Lehigh University, WLVR 91.3-FM airs national and international news, plus local news coverage from their internal team of journalists, the Reporter Corps®. WLVR also features programs from NPR such as Morning Edition and All Things Considered, American Public Media, BBC World Service and PRX Public Radio Exchange.

The Public Radio Program Directors Association has nearly 200 members and represents more than 800 public media outlets, including national networks, local stations, and independent producers.
