Tonight, I visited the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas at Steel Stacks in ArtsQuest with my amazing friend Roxanne Frei to see Spaced Out Sensations Rocky Horror Picture Show with the live Shadow Cast, and it was a blast.

Okay, so the last Friday of every month this talented group puts on a divine show. They started tonight’s show with a tribute to the now late great Meatloaf, a man of many talents, and if you ever saw him in concert, I’m sure you saw one hell of a magical show. It was an audience participation show and mind you they had CDC/Covid-19 protocols in place, so mask up.

I would suggest listening to some of Meatloaf’s music if you have never listened to his music. Meatloaf also appeared in quite a few films, and the iconic Rocky Horror Picture Show was one of them. Meatloaf portrayed Eddie, he rides a motorcycle, he sings his heart out and he is in love with the beloved Columbia portrayed by Nell Campbell.

Okay, lets talk Rocky Horror Picture Show. It was directed by Jim Sharman, written by Richard O’Brien and Jim Sharman. It was released in 1975, and starred Tim Curry as Dr. Frank-N-Furter, Susan Sarandon as Janet, Barry Bostwick as Brad Majors, Richard O’Brien as Riff Raff, Patricia Quinn as Magenta, Nell Campbell as Columbia, Jonathan Adams as Dr. Everett V. Scott, Peter Hinwood as Rocky Horror, Charles Gray as The Criminologist, and Meatloaf as Eddie.

My friend Roxanne and her talented husband Dave Frei is a photographer, he was the professional photographer for many of the shows over the years. Rocky Horror Picture Show has become a Cult Classic film, and it’s quoted and the live performances during the movie have become second nature. As a film fan, a horror fan, a lover of Cult Classic films, I’m sad to say this was my first time experiencing The Rocky Horror Picture Show with a Shadow Cast.

It was an absolute blast. As I stated earlier, they started the show with a tribute to Meatloaf. They asked everyone to sing along to “Paradise by The Dashboard Light” from Meatloaf’s album, Bat Out of Hell which came out in 1977. I’m grateful because growing up my mom always had albums and loves music. That album also gave us “You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth”, “All Revved Up With No Place to Go”, “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad”, “Heaven Can Wait” which are just classics. They will FOREVER be classics.

After the tribute to Meatloaf, which of course continued throughout the film with various call-backs from the audience and the cast. This Shadow cast did an amazing job. They also had prop bags for sale for $2.00 so we got prop bags because as Roxanne said, “it’s an experience” and you need to just embrace the experience. The prop bags are filled with various items that go along with the movie.

A glowstick, cards, toast (don’t eat the toast. I figured, I would add that in just to be safe after being told a toast eating story.), confetti, rice for the wedding of course, and more. The audience participated from start to finish. From quoting the movie, singing, the call-back lines that people shout back at the cast.

Matt K. portrayed Dr. Frank-N-Furter, he took his role to the next level. He was matched with Tim Curry’s movements, his full-on attitude, the fun he has in the film. The other cast members included: Banana (aka Nikki L.), Thuban Windrider, Clint W., and more. The cast was incredible. The Rocky Horror Picture Show is a film that should continue with its legacy. The age-range and audience members varied. It was such a fun crowd. People were courtesy as always, the staff at Steel Stacks is always wonderful.

I would recommend checking out Spaced Out Sensations Rocky Horror Picture Show with the Shadow Cast. They did an incredible job. They were vibrant, fun, enthusiastic. I cannot say enough about everyone.

So next month, and every last Friday of the month, you can go to Steel Stacks and see Spaced Out Sensations, The Rocky Horror Picture Show – Shadow Cast.
