Freeman announces $175,000 environmental grant

HARRISBURG, Jan. 5 – The Wildlands Conservancy today was awarded a $175,000 Growing Greener grant by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, announced state Rep. Robert Freeman.

The funding will be used for a dam removal and stream restoration project on the Bushkill Creek in the City of Easton in Northampton County.

“Cleaning up Pennsylvania’s streams and rivers requires strategic, collaborative community efforts at multiple levels. Achieving a collective impact is the essential role Growing Greener projects play,” said Freeman, D-Northampton.

Established over 25 years ago, Growing Greener remains the largest single investment of state funds in Pennsylvania’s history to address Pennsylvania’s critical environmental concerns of the 21st century.

Growing Greener has helped to slash the backlog of farmland-preservation projects statewide; protect open space; eliminate the maintenance backlog in state parks; clean up abandoned mines and restore watersheds; provide funds for recreational trails and local parks; help communities address land use; and provide new and upgraded water and sewer systems.
