St. Luke’s Meets Health Needs of Upper Bucks for 30 Years

August marks the 30th anniversary of Quakertown Hospital joining St. Luke’s University Health Network (SLUHN).

Quakertown Hospital was St. Luke’s first hospital acquisition and its entry into the Upper Bucks community. Since then, St. Luke’s has continued to grow to meet the health needs of the region’s vibrant community, opening St. Luke’s Upper Bucks Campus nearby in 2019 and adding Grand View Health in Sellersville to the Network in July of this year.

Over the past three decades, more than 2.8 million patients have received care at St. Luke’s facilities in Bucks County – a figure that includes ER patients, hospital inpatients and out-patients at medical offices.

“St. Luke’s commitment to Quakertown and the surrounding area over the past 30 years has been unwavering, establishing St. Luke’s as a pillar of our community,” said Dennis Pfleiger, the President of St. Luke’s Upper Bucks and Quakertown campuses. “Not only does St. Luke’s contribute to the health and well-being of our community, it also serves as an incredibly important economic engine, providing family-sustaining jobs to thousands of people.”

Growing St. Luke’s Upper Bucks Campus

After the St. Luke’s Upper Bucks Campus opened in 2019, the Quakertown Campus transitioned from being an acute care hospital to primarily an in-patient mental health services unit. The facility provides personalized inpatient treatment for those with mental illness. It is located at 1021 Park Avenue, Quakertown. The Behavioral Health Unit was a $6.6 million investment.

Other essential health and wellness services that are now available at the St. Luke’s Quakertown Campus include:

The St. Luke’s Upper Bucks Campus includes a full-service 80-bed hospital at the intersection of Route 663 and Portzer Road in Quakertown. The 248,000-square foot facility offers a large ER, spacious private rooms, surgical services, four operating rooms, an interventional radiology lab, diagnostic radiology and additional lab services. The hospital is a fully accredited trauma center and a designated Center of Excellence in hernia surgery. Its enhanced services and high quality have earned the campus the prestigious Top 100 Hospitals ranking from Premier and an ‘A’ grade for safety from The Leapfrog Group.

Since opening the Upper Bucks hospital, additional expansions included the Women and Babies Pavilion, Cancer Center and Emergency Department. St. Luke’s investments in the region since 2019 total more than $150 million.

St. Luke’s charitable contributions to the Upper Bucks community over the last 30 years also have been substantial. The community benefit – comprising in-kind donations, medical and financial assistance, subsidized health services and community health improvement services – is valued at over $230 million and has earned recognition from the Massachusetts-based Lown Institute.

Upon joining St. Luke’s this summer, Grand View Hospital became St. Luke’s 16th campus.
