10 Years of Break the Silence for #MeToo Locals

Allentown, PAMarch 22, 2019 For the tenth year in a row, teens and adults who have survived sexual abuse will be gathering together for Break the Silence, a sexual abuse poetry night on Saturday, April 6th. They are joined there by this year’s speaker, Angel Bulla and some surprise anniversary guests.

The event was begun in 2009 by local psychotherapist, Anne Crothers. Crothers has worked with sexual abuse survivors for decades and noticed a connection with poetry and recovery. Survivors of all ages, but particularly teens, are drawn to poetry to describe and support their healing.

This year’s Break the Silence will be held at Miller Symphony Hall in the Rodale Room on Saturday, April 6, 2019 from 7 to 9 PM. The event is sponsored by Anne Crothers of Healing Works in Allentown. Survivors, friends and family, 14 and older are encouraged to break the silence for one night! Proceeds will go to benefit Pennsylvania Coalition against Rape (PCAR).

Those brave enough to read a poem will receive a “swag bag” with products donated by local businesses, therapists and survivors. There is a speaker, some dinner, a band. The band includes two Allentown musicians, Sam Crothers and Bob Perrone and their friend, Hugh Brenner from Ardmore, PA. The night always ends with a free raffle of donated items from local therapists, businesses and from survivors themselves.
